Thank you to faculty and student volunteers for another successful admissions season
The School of Dentistry is finalizing the Class of 2027 thanks to the many faculty and dental students who helped interview applicants.
A committee of dedicated faculty members makes up the school’s Admission Review Panel (ARP) Committee. This year, these members reviewed more than 1,600 applications and submitted the most qualified applicants for an interview.
Kelly C. Lemke, DDS, MS, director of admissions, along with her team members Jennifer Sandlin, senior program coordinator, and Kimberly Kirby, senior administrative assistant, then coordinated 319 interviews! The interview team consisted of faculty, DS3 and DS4 students who volunteered their time over the course of 19 consecutive Mondays. The team completed interviews with the goal of identifying a group of applicants who best fit our school to fill the DDS freshman class.
A thank-you reception for the interviewers was held in March with dinner and drinks in the Greehey atrium. Dean Loomer opened the event thanking all of the volunteers for their time and effort with a special nod of gratitude toward Lemke and her team. The admissions staff were praised for their hard work in continually improving the recruitment program and process in order to attract the best of the best to our School of Dentistry.
Taking to the stage, Lemke thanked the volunteers for representing the school, helping potential students understand who we are and for their time getting to know each interviewee. While all volunteers did their fair share of work, there were a few that received gifts for going above and beyond.
The interviewer with by far the most interviews was Dr. Bennett T. Amaechi who completed 32 interviews! The other top interviewers included students: Dylan Nguyen, Elvis Le, Dalton Montgomery, Dylan Emerson, Amanda Marmurek, Chinoye Agu-Udemba and faculty: Dr. John Dossett, Dr. Poornima Mensinkai, Dr. Kyumin Whang, Dr. Magda de la Torre, Dr. Elena Riccio-Leach. The leading GPG for interviews was GPG 7!
