Pilot Project Program Awardees

A new funding opportunity in the School of Dentistry, created and sponsored by the Office of the Dental Dean, was announced in July of 2019. Its purpose is to provide funding for faculty to generate pilot data that will be used for submitting future grant proposals. Members of the research community evaluated and ranked 10 competitive submissions, of which, four were funded. The School of Dentistry would like to congratulate the following faculty members for their strong and successful project submissions: • Dr. Shuo Chen, Professor in the Department of Developmental Dentistry, for his submission: “CsgalnacT-1 in Dentin Development and Formation”. • Dr. Yong-Hee Patricia Chun, Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics, for her submission: “Epithelial Attachment in Gingivitis and Periodontitis”. • Dr. Varvara Vanessa Chrepa, Assistant Professor in the Department of Endodontics, for her submission: “Cannabidiol (CBD) Analgesic Mechanisms for Dental Pain”. • Dr. Georgios Kotsakis, Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics, for his submission: “Titanium Particle-Induced Inflammasome Activation in the Peri-implant Mucosal Barrier”. To learn more about these projects, you can hear each of these Principle Investigators present at their own upcoming Dental Research Seminar session.
