Meet the Staff: Martha Browning

For the past 30 years, Martha Browning has made service to students her life’s work.  Martha is an Academic Programs Coordinator for the Dental Hygiene Program in the Department of Periodontics.  During her tenure in the School of Dentistry, Martha has become vital to the success of both the dental hygiene faculty and students.

Jo Ann Jordan, director of the Dental Hygiene program, describes Martha as a wonderful team member.  “She and I work very well together, in fact, she’s been with us long enough that we finish one another’s sentences!”

There is no typical day for Ms. Browning as the first point of contact for the hygiene program. Martha greets and informs prospective students, college advisors, and assists her students and faculty with on-the-fly requests.  She can transition from coordinating applicant interviews to ordering program supplies to resolving building or classroom issues at the drop of a dime.

Martha enjoys all her students, “I love being a support staff for our students.  I love getting to know them, they are all so unique, talented, smart, community oriented, and compassionate.  It’s exciting to see them come in as juniors, go through the program and graduate with their peers at the end.”

She also is grateful for the program faculty she gets to work with and support. “I love helping them resolve issues and making their lives better and less stressful.  I love sharing my ideas with them.  I love having a relationship with them that consists of mutual respect and care about our work and personal lives."

Most of all, Martha enjoys “being part of a community that is so committed to providing the best healthcare for our community and educating our students to be the best in their chosen fields.”
