Meet the Faculty: Dr. Lea El Hachem

The School of Dentistry would like to welcome Lea El Hachem, DDS, CAGS, MSd, a newly appointed faculty member in the department of periodontics. Dr. Hachem, as she prefers to be called, earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut, Lebanon and completed a post-doctoral program in periodontics at Boston University, earning her Master of Science in Oral Biology and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Periodontics. She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Drawn to academia early on, Dr. Hachem shares that she has always been passionate about teaching. “Upon graduation from my periodontics program, I started my journey as a faculty member in the department of advanced education in general dentistry and the periodontics division of the department of general dentistry at Boston University,” Dr. Hachem recounts. “My duties included didactic as well as clinical teaching in periodontology and implantology. I also provided direct patient care at the Boston University Dental Health Center.” Dr. Hachem will take on the responsibilities of the periodontics’ pre-doctoral director with duties that include didactic and clinical teaching as well an administrative role. When asked what attracted her to the , Dr. Hachem answered easily, “The periodontics program at School of Dentistry is known to be one of the best in the country and the department team is outstanding! It is a pleasure to work alongside such an accomplished group of people.” When she is not lecturing or in clinic, Dr. Hachem enjoys skiing, yoga, and relaxing by the beach.
