The American Academy of CranioMaxillofacial Surgeons (AACMFS) held its annual meeting in San Antonio on May 9 – 10, 2019. AACMFS members from around the nation assembled for presentations on the latest clinical and research findings, as well as discussions on innovative craniomaxillofacial surgery recommendations.

Our very own Dr. Ken Hargreaves, Professor and Chair of the Department of Endodontics, and Dr. David Jimenez, former Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery with UT Medicine San Antonio, presented as keynote speakers for the event. Dr. Hargreaves spoke on the challenges of pain control and offered methods to improve pain management and inflammation for surgical patients. Dr. Jimenez, currently in private practice, walked through his approach on pediatric endoscopic craniosynostosis surgery. Dr. Edward Ellis, Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and sitting President of the AACMFS, noted that this year’s speakers “gave superb talks”.

In addition to the keynotes, mini-presentations of selected abstracts were followed by moderator led discussions. By all accounts, the meeting was extremely successful and insightful.
