15th Annual School of Dentistry Golf Scholarship Tournament
The 15th Annual School of Dentistry’s Golf Scholarship Tournament was held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Silverhorn Golf Club. 62 participants, including several School of Dentistry leaders and sponsor representatives, arrived early on a cool, spring morning to enjoy a round of golf and raise funds for dental student scholarships. This year’s event raised over $19,000 for the Last Man Standing Scholarship Endowment and the School of Dentistry Memorial Scholarship.
This annual tournament is organized by the school’s Golf Scholarship Tournament Committee, Drs. Adriana Segura, William Dodge, Spencer Redding, Ridley Ross, Barry Holleron, Jeffrey Thompson, Jon Dossett, and Mrs. DJ Smith, Special Events Coordinator in the Office of the Dental Dean. Planning begins early each June with the committee and Mrs. Smith working right up to the occasion to create a truly entertaining event.
15 teams carted out across the course to play 18 holes, competing for prizes sponsored by friends and businesses invested in dental education. Carus Dental, Frost Bank and Corpus Christi General & Implant Dentistry were platinum sponsors, together covering event registration for 12 dental students.
Directly following the tournament, players headed to the clubhouse to enjoy dinner and an awards ceremony for the tournament winners. From each flight, first and second place winners are recognized as well as winners for Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin. Overall last place winners are presented each year with a special bowling trophy.
By all accounts, the year’s tournament was extremely successful thanks to the dedication of the Golf Scholarship Tournament Committee, Mrs. DJ Smith, and all the School of Dentistry’s faculty, staff, and students who showed up in support.
