Research Topic
Chlamydia trachomatis is responsible for the majority of reported sexually transmitted bacterial infections and can cause pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancies, and infertility when left untreated. Chlamydia muridarum, the mouse-adapted strain used in research, has demonstrated characteristics that suggest a unique relationship between Chlamydia and mammals. There is a growing need for a deeper understanding of Chlamydia, which will contribute to the development of a live attenuated Chlamydia vaccine. Trinity's project aims to investigate the ways that Chlamydia muridarum interacts with the mouse gut microbiome and microbiota.
